    The High Line

  • From 1934 to 1980 a freight line ran from Gansevoort St. to West 34th St. on Manhattan’s Westside, about 1.45 miles. The rail was unused, a relic of city functional grandeur, until 2004 when funds became allocated to transform the skeleton of iron into a public park.

Open in 2009, The High Line is now a bridge across the city carpeted with green life. A verdant, dreamlike walkway of floating garden in the heart of a real city’s city.
